Looking for the Summer Kitchen

The archaeology team hopes to find the foundation of the washhouse.

The site selected is adjacent to our newly installed sidewalk.

Almost immediately they found a "Master Ink Bottle" which generated a lot of excitement.

This bottle was made in England.

Many other artifacts were found.

J. Bourne & Son
Denby Pottery
Circa 1860

A 'Big Find' is this bone brush from the Civil War era.

Another 'Big Find'
Kaolin white clay Revolutionary War period tavern pipe. The bowl is two thirds complete. Men patronizing taverns could buy a smoke. The tavern keeper would fill the bowl with tobacco and when finished break off the tip of the stem. This kept the pipe tip sanitary for the next smoker. Found during the archaeological dig on September 30, 2001.
