Doug Watson - Marble Champion
Special Exhibit July 5 & 8, 2001

Doug Watson, 16 of Greencastle, the 1999 National and 2000 World Marble Champion, was present both afternoons to demonstrate and introduce this pastime game from long ago to both the young and young-at-heart.

Watson was 11 when he started to play the game of marbles and quickly perfected his skills winning the national title about three years later. He served as captain of the world team for the United States in 2000 when he captured the world title.

Because of attaining the highest level of winning at the game of marbles, Watson is no longer eligible to play and has "retired" to the position of coach. He is now both a coach and mentor for Riley and Isaac Lauffer, sister and brother, also, from Greencastle.

Doug Watson, Riley Lauffer, Tom Cramer
Riley Lauffer is one of Doug's students.
Tom Kramer is the 1938 marble champion
of Franklin County.

Watson has on exhibit in the dining room display case some of the antique marbles from his collection.

Take yourself back in time when the pace of everyday life was much slower and learn to play the game of marbles or revive your own skills. Please join us. What better way to spend an early July afternoon?

Visitor Chris Harbaugh gets some pointers while shooting marbles with Doug and Riley.
