The 2002 holiday exhibit of music boxes from the collection
of Miss Donna Thomas, Greencastle, is displayed in the large bedroom.
Although the music boxes are not antique, the collection of over 50
‘musicals’ has a special theme - Christmas tunes.
Thomas began her collection in 1980 when her late father,
Jack Thomas, gave her a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus sitting on a swing.
Numerous musicals have been gifts from her mother, Stella, and late father,
as well as her close friends and neighbors, Ronald and Mae Webb. There are
many different scenes in the collection including snowmen, Santa’s,
churches, Nativity scenes, snow globes, carrousels, Tiny Tim, and animated
figurines. A couple of the music boxes were bought in Greencastle shops over
the years. There are special stories associated with many of the music
boxes.
Thomas will be present during the Friday evening and Sunday
open house hours to greet visitors and talk about her collection. |
