History:
The Roaring ‘20’s! – Prohibition, Jazz Age, the Charleston, Flappers, the
Fitzgerald’s, Hemingway, Gershwin, Will Rogers, Babe Ruth, Charles
Lindbergh, Clara Bow, Rudolph Valentino, and the Right to Vote! And then…
the crash of Wall Street on October 29, 1929 and the dawn of the Great
Depression.
Fashion: Curves were out. The thin,
straight, boy-look was in. Hemlines went up and down. Women used makeup
and went to health clubs. Egyptian motifs and embroidered Spanish shawls
were in. Art Deco with its streamlined or geometric lines was popular.
Bugle beads and sequins adorned evening ware.
Hats: The cloche was the hat of the
‘20’s worn straight and low over the forehead. Hats were made of felt,
straw, silk and horsehair along with synthetics. |
