History: WWII ended in 1945.
Women worked in the factories and joined the military. Some women remained
in the workforce after the war but many returned to their homes. The Great
Baby Boom was here! The sound of the Big Band was popular.
Fashion: Because of shortages, clothing
was plainer and boxy looking with padded shoulders and shorter skirts.
After the war Christian Dior burst into the fashion realm with his “New
Look” – slopping shoulders, curvaceous bust line, tiny waist, and longer
skirt length.
Hats: The 1930’s styles remained
popular along with snoods, and the fedora. Dior entered with the small,
narrow pillboxes, styles that hugged the head. |
